The EU prize for contemporary architecture, the Mies van der Rohe Award 2009, was awarded to Norwegian architects Snøhetta for their design of Oslo’s new Opera House. This was the culmination of an extensive nomination process for which 340 projects were proposed.
The prize is awarded biannually and is one of the most important and prestigious in the field of international architecture. Oslo’s new Opera House is now a familiar landmark, but what other buildings did it compete with? This exhibition presents the finalists, which included buildings from many European countries. It offers a rare opportunity to update one’s knowledge of developments in contemporary European architecture.
