Architecture

The Architectural Collection consists of a number of different collections and types of documentation of Norwegian architecture. The main focus is upon the 20th century.

Drawing Collection: This is the largest of its kind in Norway. It consists of the private architectural archives of 120 architects, containing over 300,000 drawings. The collection is an important source of information about our physical surroundings and the historical construction process of each building represented.

Photography Collection: This consists of approximately 25,000 photographs (colour slides and black and white prints). Together, these represent over 3,000 Norwegian buildings and the work of 500 Norwegian architects. Some of the photographs are taken by the architects themselves whilst others are taken by well known Norwegian photographers.

Tormod Olesen's Photography Collection: This consists of photographs of older, wooden architecture from the Nordic countries taken by the Danish architect, Tormod Olesen.

Model Collection: This consists of approximately 100 scale models of Norwegian buildings from 1920 until today. The collection comprises working models, presentation models from commissions or architectural competitions and models made for exhibitions.

Harald Hals' model collection: This consists of over 300 models of buildings in Oslo as well as a large model of the city plan of Oslo from 1930-1950.

Book Collection: This consists of the book collections of the Norwegian town planner, Harald Hals and Norwegian professor and researcher, Christian Norberg-Schulz.
