Painting
The main focus of the collection is Norwegian painting from the 1800's and 1900's (approximately 3,500 works). All major artists are represented, some with several paintings. The collection of work by artists from outside Norway is limited (approximately 1,000 paintings). Some major artists from before 1800 are represented, but the main periods of focus are the late 1800's and the early 1900's.
Sculpture
The main focus of the collection is Norwegian sculpture from the 1800's and 1900's (approximately 900 works). The collection of work by artists from outside Norway is limited (approximately 500 sculptures) - the work of some more recent Swedish and Danish sculptors is represented. The Museum also has a small collection of ancient Greek sculpture (approximately 140 pieces) and a collection of plaster casts - most of them taken from ancient Greek and Renaissance works.
Prints and Drawings
The collection comprises approximately 20.000 older prints by artists from outside Norway, approximately 2,000 older drawings by artists from outside Norway, approximately 8.000 prints by Norwegian artists and approximately 16,500 drawings by Norwegian artists.
