The library is one of the leading specialist libraries for art and art history in Norway. In addition to the book collection, it consists of magazines, exhibition catalogues and newspaper cuttings about Norwegian and international artists and exhibitions.

The Photographic Archive contains information about the Museum's own collection of art, decorative art and design as well as the Museum's previous exhibitions. The archive also has an extensive collection of photographs of Norwegian architecture.

The collections in The Documentary Archive are a central source for the study of Norwegian art, architecture and design. The collection consists of the institution archives of all the former museums, the archives of researchers, artists, architects and other material that is relevant to the NationalMuseum's own collections.
