The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design has assumed responsibility for the collections of The National Gallery, The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, and The Norwegian Museum of Architecture.
The collections are numerous and fall into several different categories. With four, very different museum collections as a basis, we are currently unable to present one unified National Museum Collection.
The basis exhibitions at The National Gallery, The Museum of Contemporary Art and The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design present selected work in their collections:
The Art Collections consist of painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, photography, videos and installations from the Middle Ages until today. The focus is Norwegian Art.
The Research Collections: The study/research area of The National Gallery offers the public the opportunity of viewing drawings and prints which are not currently on exhibition. Please enquire about particular work you wish to view and the staff will find it for you. Groups are asked to pre-book a visit.
